At Baxendale Care Home we sometimes get asked about our ‘moving in’ process – so we have compiled this helpful guide to anyone who may be thinking of joining the close-knit community at our residential caring home in North London.
You don’t need a GP referral to be eligible to stay here; you can contact us directly either by following this link and filling in the online form, or by calling us on 020 8445 1127. You can also email us at info@baxendalecare.org.uk.
However, we will contact your GP for a medical report as part of the pre-assessment process. When it comes to the administrative side of the move, we issue a contract prior to residency which needs to be signed and returned by the date of admission.
Contracts can be completed and returned electronically, as well as by hand or through the post.
When it comes to the timing of your move, you can move in during either the morning or the afternoon. We are happy to arrange whatever is most convenient for the individual, and we appreciate that this varies according to everyone’s personal circumstances.
Parking is available for new residents. A removal van should not be necessary as all rooms are fully furnished (and this includes a TV set). New residents may, if they wish, bring small items of furniture, such as an armchair or a bedside table. However, there is no need to bring any larger items of furniture, or a room telephone. Free Wi-Fi is also available throughout the building.
New residents and/or their families will be advised (when they are pre-assessed) on the most suitable room. Residents and their families will be shown all the available rooms to choose from. In the case of new arrivals who suffer from dementia, a decision will be made to determine if the specialist dementia unit is more appropriate.
On the day of admission, new residents and their families are introduced to everyone (both residents and staff). We try to ‘pair’ residents up when they first arrive, so they do not feel lost or lonely.
A full information pack is given to all new residents on admission, but the daily routine (including mealtimes) is discussed before that – usually on the day of the initial viewing. Residents are given daily and weekly menus detailing mealtimes.
Activities coordinators provide all residents with a weekly programme of activities and visit residents daily to remind them of activities and events taking place in the home. These can include arts and crafts sessions, cooking lessons, musical entertainment and some supervised outside trips – to the theatre, local religious centres and even the pub.
As well as contacting us on the number above, you can also check the FAQs section on our website as this answers many of the most common queries from potential new residents and their loved ones.
