Baxendale Care Home – Caring for Residents at Christmas and All Year Round

Christmas is a special time of year, and everyone likes to celebrate the festive season, so we’ve laid on several special events for our residents (and made sure friends and families can visit as well). At Baxendale, a 24-hour caring home in North London, we always try to make sure all our residents can enjoy a full programme of activities all year round.

This Year’s Christmas Festivities

At Baxendale, our residents have already enjoyed two carol services this year – one with pupils from the nearby Queenswell Primary School – and some musical entertainment provided by the Barnet U3A Guitar Group.

This week, there will be a special pet therapy session, where residents can meet Poppy the dog, and a Christmas singalong with Malcolm George. There’s also a musical performance by The Zimmerettes, and a Christmas quiz.

On Christmas Day itself, friends and families are welcome to join us for sherry and mince pies in the main lounge.

The Rest of the Year

At Baxendale we try to make every day special for our residents, so there’s a full programme of social activities all year round – not just at Christmas. The main lounge – which is where many of our events take place – has a piano if you fancy joining in with one of our regular singalong sessions. Staff also organise discussion groups, arts and crafts sessions, board games and bingo, knitting groups, and special ‘sensory afternoons’.

We also lay on special days out. These include trips to the theatre, local churches and other places of worship – and even to the local pub! To see the kinds of activities we lay on, check out a sample week here.

Residents can take part in as many or as few social activities as they like – so, if they want a little peace and quiet, we also have a sun lounge, which enjoys wonderful views over Baxendale’s spectacular garden and grounds in Whetstone. There’s also a library which doubles as a visitor room.
